FG Extends NIN-SIM Linkage By One Month

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for linking Subscriber Identification Modules with valid National Identity Numbers by one month.

It announced the extension on Friday in a statement issued in Abuja by the spokesperson of the National Identity Management Commission, Kayode Adegoke.

The deadline was extended from April 6, 2021, to May 6, 2021, after participants at the meeting of the Ministerial Task Force on NIN-SIM data linkage agreed to have an extension of the process.

The implication of this is that Nigerians, who are yet to complete the NIN-SIM registration now have up till May 6 to do, failure of which may warrant the SIM card to be blocked by then.

This is even as the already registered and verified NINs have exceeded 51 million.

According to the statement, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Task Force on the NIN-SIM data linkage on Thursday where the decision was reached.
