FRSC Kwara Command Deploys 950 Personnel For Festive Season Operations
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara Sector Command, has mobilized 950 personnel to ensure road safety and security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This was disclosed in a press statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olayinka Basambo, on Thursday in Ilorin.
The deployment includes 350 special marshals and 120 first responders, complemented by 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne tow truck. These resources aim to monitor roads across the state and mitigate traffic incidents during the festive period.
Sector Commander Mufutau Irekeola emphasized that personnel would focus on strategic locations within Ilorin and other major cities in Kwara to ensure traffic flow and safety. The operation, tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance for Road Traffic Crash,” runs from December 15, 2024, to January 15, 2025.
Public Awareness and Traffic Management
Mrs. Basambo highlighted the importance of adherence to traffic rules during the celebrations, urging motorists to avoid dangerous driving practices such as wrongful overtaking, excessive speeding, and phone use while driving. She also warned against mechanical deficiencies, overloading, and the use of worn-out tyres.
To raise awareness, the command has intensified public enlightenment campaigns, including rallies at interstate motor parks, markets, churches, and mosques. Early morning road safety advocacy and targeted traffic control measures are also underway to ensure smooth vehicular movement across major routes.
Message to the Public
Commander Irekeola extended season’s greetings to Kwara residents, urging them to prioritize road safety during the festivities. He reminded motorists that “only the living celebrate,” encouraging cautious and responsible driving throughout the season.
This proactive deployment underscores the FRSC’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, fostering a safe and joyous celebration for all.
