Governor Mutfwang Inaugurates 15 Newly Elected Local Government Chairmen In Plateau
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen of 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state. The ceremony took place on Thursday night at the Langfield Resort in Jos, following the issuance of certificates of return to the chairmen by Mr. Plangji Cishak, Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC).
However, the swearing-in for the chairmen of Langtang North and Pankshin LGAs was postponed due to the incomplete collation of election results in those councils. Governor Mutfwang assured the public that once the results are finalized, the elected officials in these areas will be inaugurated in compliance with legal procedures.
In his address to the newly sworn-in chairmen, Governor Mutfwang praised PLASIEC for organizing a credible, free, and fair election. He expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, stating, “PLASIEC has done well. Even the devil at the counsel of hell knows that this election was held.” The governor also emphasized his administration’s commitment to due process, which is why the results for Langtang North and Pankshin were not rushed.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 15 of the 17 LGAs where results were declared, marking a significant victory in the state. Governor Mutfwang highlighted his pride in inaugurating the new chairmen, affirming that the remaining two would be sworn in once all legal requirements were met. “Whoever wins will be allowed to win,” he said, reinforcing the administration’s stance on fairness.
As a strong advocate for local government autonomy, Mutfwang reiterated his dedication to strengthening the local government system in Plateau State. He urged the newly elected chairmen to work collaboratively with his administration for the development of the state.
“I want to thank the people for the continuous support given to my administration in its quest for a prosperous Plateau. I can assure you that we can only get better by the day,” the governor added, encouraging optimism and unity as they work towards the betterment of the state.
The ceremony marks another step in Governor Mutfwang’s broader vision for Plateau, emphasizing effective governance and enhanced local autonomy to foster sustainable development at the grassroots level.
