Governors Otti And Eno Collaborate To Improve Road Connectivity Between Abia And Akwa Ibom

The governments of Abia and Akwa Ibom states have entered a partnership to improve road accessibility between their regions. This collaboration was agreed upon during Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s recent condolence visit to Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, who lost his wife, Patience, on September 26, 2024. Governor Otti expressed sympathy for Eno’s loss, recognizing Mrs. Eno’s positive impact on her community and calling her passing a significant loss for both Akwa Ibom and the nation.

In addition to expressing his condolences, Otti assured Governor Eno of Abia State’s commitment to support initiatives that would enhance connectivity between the states. He emphasized the socioeconomic benefits of improved infrastructure, especially in terms of linking commercial hubs and providing smoother transit for citizens. “We will work collaboratively to fix the roads linking our states for the socioeconomic interest of our citizens,” Otti stated.

Governor Eno expressed deep gratitude for Otti’s visit and the ongoing support. Reflecting on his late wife’s legacy, he shared, “It is like half of me is gone, but she was an accomplished woman…she joined me to pastor our ministry and did excellently well in managing the women and building homes.”

Both governors committed to prioritizing the rehabilitation of major connecting roads, particularly the Ikot Ekpene-Aba road and the Ini-Arochukwu road. Governor Eno reaffirmed his readiness to work with Abia State to address key infrastructure challenges, aiming to foster easier movement and economic exchange. “Aba remains a very strong regional commercial centre for all of us. I will see whatever we can do to ensure that our people have that smooth passage to and fro Aba,” Eno added.

This partnership marks a strategic step toward enhanced regional development, with both states recognizing the vital role of well-maintained roads in boosting local economies and improving citizens’ quality of life.
