Guaranty Trust Bank Announces Attempt To Hack Bank’s Website

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc on Wednesday (today) confirmed an attempt to compromise its website domain.

The attempted breach took place a day following the bank’s renewal of its domain name. This led to a brief interruption of the website, temporarily preventing customers from accessing online services.

This incident raised widespread concern and sparked media reports that the bank’s website may have been cloned, raising fears about potential risks to customer data.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its management, the bank clarified that the hacking attempt was unsuccessful and assured that its website had not been cloned.

The bank also alleviated concerns about potential data breaches, emphasizing that it does not store customer information on its website.

The statement, titled “Clarification on Alleged Web Domain Hack,” noted, “We have seen media reports claiming that hackers have taken over our website, cloned it, and accessed customer data. We want to set the record straight.”

While there was an isolated incident of an attempt to compromise our website domain, we would like to assure all our customers and stakeholders that the bank’s website has not been cloned and that we do not store customer information on our website, and as such, there has been no instance of compromise of customer data.

The statement noted that the bank’s Information Security experts are currently working round the clock to restore domain settings.

GTBank also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data, urging customers to remain calm and confident in the bank’s robust security measures.

“Our dedicated team of Information Security Experts is currently working round the clock to restore domain settings, and we can assure our customers that our website will be up shortly.

“We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data. Thank you for your continued support,” the statement added.
