This realignment of top police leadership was confirmed in a statement released by the Force’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday. According to the statement, these changes are part of the Inspector General’s efforts to ensure efficient and effective policing across the country.
Adejobi said, “The Inspector-General of Police to strategically emplace a Police Force well efficient for effective policing has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police of Rivers State Command, Delta State Command, and the Federal Capital Territory.”
In addition to the reshuffling in Rivers, Delta, and the FCT, four new Commissioners of Police have also been appointed to lead commands in Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa-Ibom states. The newly assigned Commissioners include CP Danladi Nda for Abia State, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale for Lagos State, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya for Ebonyi State, and CP Festus Eribo for Akwa-Ibom State. These deployments were made following approval from the Police Service Commission.
The statement highlighted the Inspector General’s focus on strategically repositioning the Nigeria Police Force and ensuring optimal utilization of human resources within the institution. Egbetokun also emphasized the need for innovation and diligence in the fight against crime.
“The IGP has urged the new CPs of State Commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility,” Adejobi added. He also encouraged the Commissioners to support the ongoing police reform plans aimed at advancing the Nigeria Police Force and contributing to the nation’s overall growth.
These changes come amid efforts by the police leadership to strengthen security in key regions, ensuring that the Force is well-equipped to handle the diverse challenges of policing in Nigeria.
