Israel Adesanya Defeats Whittaker To Retain UFC Middleweight Belt
Israel Adesanya was victorious over Robert Whittaker as he retains the middleweight crown.
Adesanya and his arch-rival, Whittaker, clashed for the second time at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on Sunday morning.
Robert Whittaker got a chance at revenge on Sunday morning but failed.
The clash between the two best middleweights in the UFC was the main event for UFC 271 from Houston’s Toyota Center.
The reigning UFC middleweight champion won via a unanimous decision after five rounds in his fourth consecutive title defense in front of 6,000 fans.
The win puts an exclamation mark on his success against Whittaker in his career. Adesanya took the belt from Bobby Knuckles to kick off his title reign at 185 pounds. Nearly two-and-a-half years later, he’s now added him to the list of challengers who have failed to take his crown.
The win is the end of a good week for The Last Stylebender. On Wednesday, his management team announced a new contract with the UFC.
