James Michael Tyler Dies At 59
James Michael Tyler, the actor famous for playing Central Perk employee Gunther on “Friends,” has passed away as a result of prostate cancer.
Tyler’s manager Toni Benson disclosed that he died “peacefully in his home” on Sunday October 24, at the age of 59.
The actor was known for playing Gunther, the manager of the Central Perk coffee shop, and Rachel’s admirer on the iconic 90s TV show for 10 seasons, but he was in numerous other titles including “Scrubs,” “Modern Music,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.“
Born May 28, 1962, in Winona, Miss., Mr. Tyler was the youngest of five children, raised by a retired Air Force captain and a homemaker, according to a biography on IMDb. He moved to Anderson, S.C., to live with his sister at age 11 and enrolled at Clemson University as a geology major. He earned a master’s of fine arts from the University of Georgia and moved to Los Angeles after a brief stint of selling cars in Olympia, Wash., according to the bio.
