Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf Nominates Kwankwaso’s Son As Commissioner
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has sent a list of fresh commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.
Among the nominees is Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, son of former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, alongside three others.
The Speaker of the House, Jibril Falgore, announced the submission of the nominees’ names during a session on Tuesday, emphasising the governor’s request for their confirmation into the Executive Council.
Governor Yusuf, in his letter to the House, expressed the need for the appointment of four commissioners, stating, “I wish to request the kind consideration and approval of the Honourable House to appoint Four Commissioners and members of the Executive Council.”
The other nominees include; Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, who was previously sacked from his commissioner position; Abduljabbar Garko, and Shehu Aliyu Karaye.
The inclusion of Kwankwaso, scion of the prominent political family, has stirred speculation among observers, with many interpreting it as a strategic move by Governor Yusuf to appease the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) chieftain.
The nomination process comes on the heels of Governor Yusuf’s recent directive to commissioners to submit performance evaluation forms within a stipulated timeframe. This directive aimed to assess the performance of cabinet members and determine their retention or removal from the executive council.
The House is expected to deliberate on the Governor’s request in the coming days, as the political landscape in Kano continues to evolve.
