Katsina Electoral Commission Reaffirms Commitment To Credible 2025 Local Government Elections

The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has reiterated its dedication to conducting free, fair, and credible local government elections slated for February 15, 2025. The commission’s chairman, Lawal Al-Hassan Faskari, gave this assurance on Monday during the opening ceremony of a two-day orientation and training workshop for 21 newly recruited Electoral Officers in Katsina.

Faskari explained that the workshop is designed to equip the officers with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective election management. “The two-day training/orientation workshop for the newly recruited Electoral Officers is aimed at equipping them with everything they need to know before, during, and after the elections, which are scheduled for February 15, 2025, In-Sha-Allah, as per the approved timetable for the election,” he stated.

Preparing for Transparent Elections

The training initiative aims to address staffing gaps caused by recent retirements within the commission while ensuring that the new officers are well-prepared to execute their roles in the upcoming polls.

Faskari emphasized the commission’s adherence to the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), state electoral laws, and other enabling legislation. He assured that all rules, regulations, and procedures would be followed meticulously to uphold the integrity of the elections.

“The orientation programme will further equip the participants to discharge their responsibilities as Electoral Officers. I urge you all to pay close attention, comprehend everything you will learn, and follow the due processes as provided by the laws,” he added.

Ensuring Credibility and Accountability

As part of its preparations, the Katsina electoral body has promised to implement all necessary measures to ensure that the 2025 local government polls are transparent and widely acceptable. Faskari called on the participants to approach the training with seriousness, stressing that their performance would significantly impact the success of the elections.
