Lagos State Approves Establishment Of Electricity Regulatory Commission
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the creation of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, a significant step in transforming the state’s energy sector. This development was announced in a press release from the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor (Media and Publicity) on Monday.
The establishment of the commission follows Governor Sanwo-Olu’s signing of the Lagos Electricity Bill 2024 into law earlier in December, marking a decisive move toward energy sector reform. According to the statement, “The governor has approved the constitution of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, a critical step in advancing the state’s energy sector.”
Subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, the commission will focus on creating a sustainable and innovative energy framework to address the state’s electricity needs. Governor Sanwo-Olu also approved key appointments to drive the commission’s operations.
The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming the state’s energy landscape. By establishing policies and frameworks to ensure a reliable and efficient power supply, the commission aims to position Lagos as a model for energy innovation and sustainability in Nigeria.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for Lagos residents.
