Lagos Unveils Eight-Week Traffic Diversion Plan For Eko Bridge
The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-week traffic diversion to facilitate emergency repairs on the Eko Bridge, to be conducted by the Federal Ministry of Works. The diversion is set to begin on Monday, September 16, 2024, and will proceed in phases.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made the announcement in a statement on Friday. He explained that the repair work will be executed in four phases, with the bridge undergoing either partial or full closures based on the schedule.
To mitigate traffic congestion, Osiyemi provided several alternative routes for motorists. Those heading to Lagos Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to connect through Costain and access Eko Bridge. Additionally, motorists can go through Costain to connect Eko Bridge and continue to Apongbon for their destinations. For those heading towards Funsho Williams Avenue from Eko Bridge, they can connect through Costain and Alaka, or take Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo, where they can access Adekunle and the Third Mainland Bridge.
Motorists traveling to Surulere are advised to use Costain to link Breweries, head inwards Abebe Village, and connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.
To ease the anticipated traffic challenges, the commissioner assured the public that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be stationed along the alternative routes and at the construction sites to reduce travel delays and minimize inconvenience.
