Manchester United Confirms Lingard’s Exit Following Expiry Of His Contract

Manchester United have announced Jesse Lingard’s departure from the premier league club when his contract expires at the end of June.

An Academy graduate and dyed-in-the-wool Red, Jesse has been with United for over 20 years, having originally joined United’s Under-9s team in 2001.

He was a key member of Warren Joyce’s FA Youth Cup-winning side in 2011, scoring in the first leg of the 6-3 aggregate final victory over Sheffield United.

Following various loan spells in the Championship, Jesse made his United debut under Louis van Gaal in 2014 and became a regular presence in the first team the following season.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, where he scored a total of nine impressive goals and made four assists in 15 appearances.

The Hammers were keen to make the deal permanent but former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked the move.

That led many to feel Lingard could be braced for more game time but he continued to be unfavoured by the Norwegian and then by interim boss Ralf Rangnick throughout 2021-22.
