Minister Nyesom Wike Suspends Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Agency, Orders Immediate Handover

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of Shehu Hadi Ahmad, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA). This decision, communicated through a statement by Olalere Olayinka, the Senior Special Adviser on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister, underscores Wike’s ongoing push for accountability and transparency within the FCT administration.

Although the statement did not disclose the specific reasons behind Ahmad’s suspension, the action aligns with Minister Wike’s recent focus on addressing lapses and driving reform within the Federal Capital Territory. Since his appointment as FCT Minister, Wike has been vocal about his commitment to improving governance standards, including the expectation that all heads of agencies and departments under his purview demonstrate efficiency, accountability, and commitment to the FCT’s development goals.

In line with the suspension order, the minister has directed Ahmad to immediately hand over his responsibilities to the Director of Engineering Services in the FCDA. This handover will ensure continuity of the agency’s functions, particularly in overseeing critical projects in infrastructure, urban development, and public services that fall within the agency’s mandate.

The suspension of the Executive Secretary brings renewed attention to the internal affairs of the FCDA, the body primarily responsible for the planning, design, and development of the FCT’s physical infrastructure. The FCDA plays a central role in executing the capital city’s master plan, addressing infrastructure needs, and overseeing urban development initiatives across the territory. The leadership shift under Wike’s directive reflects the minister’s intent to reinforce efficiency and accountability in the agency.

This recent decision adds to a pattern of administrative actions that Wike has taken since assuming office, including audits and reviews of previous projects and a focus on strict oversight. Wike’s leadership has signaled a new approach to governance within the FCT, aiming to tackle inefficiencies and enhance the quality of public service delivery.

Political analysts see the minister’s bold actions as part of a broader strategy to revitalize the FCT and to meet the expectations of both residents and the Nigerian government for the capital to serve as a model of effective administration. Wike’s commitment to reform and accountability has thus far drawn attention and is expected to bring further changes to the FCT’s administrative landscape.

The suspension of Shehu Hadi Ahmad reflects Wike’s determination to address any factors that may impede the effective governance and development of the Federal Capital Territory.
