Mohbad’s Widow Consents To DNA Test For Son’s Paternity Confirmation

Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her son, Liam. This decision follows a suit filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, seeking a court order for the test. The legal proceedings took place at the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where the court initially advised both parties to pursue an alternative dispute resolution, but negotiations proved unsuccessful.

A representative from Joseph Aloba’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, confirmed that Omowunmi had agreed to the DNA test. Both parties reached an out-of-court settlement, with the court formally adopting the agreement. According to the terms, the DNA test is to be conducted at a recognized medical facility within Lagos State or an agreeable location outside the state. Joseph Aloba has agreed to cover the test’s costs, including sample collection and administrative fees.

The court stipulated that the DNA test be performed at a mutually selected laboratory, with appointed officers supervising the process to ensure reliability. Each party will bear their own legal expenses, except for the DNA test costs, which Mohbad’s father will handle.

Mohbad’s death at age 27 has sparked significant public interest and controversy. Formerly signed to Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in early 2022. The circumstances of his death have led to various legal and investigative actions, including the exhumation of his body for an autopsy and the arrest of Naira Marley and socialite Sam Larry, among others.

Concerns have also arisen over the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, with international observers citing potential biases and procedural delays. These observers expressed dissatisfaction with frequent adjournments and restrictions that, they argue, hinder the pursuit of justice for the late artist.
