Newcastle United Signs Burnley Forward, Chris Wood

Newcastle disclosed that it has signed a contract with Chris Wood from fellow Premier League club Burnley on Thursday. He is the second new signee in the January transfer window under their new Saudi-led ownership.

The 30-year-old, who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract, has joined the magpies for an undisclosed fee.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was seeking attacking reinforcements for his side, with Callum Wilson facing eight weeks on the sidelines following a calf injury.

Wood will wear the number 20 shirt – the first number he wore for his country. The Auckland-born forward has bagged 27 goals for the All Whites in 60 international appearances.

Chris Wood said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I’m delighted to be a Newcastle United player.

“I have played at St. James’ Park a few times and it’s an amazing place, so to have the chance to represent this club with those incredible supporters behind me and my teammates is very special”.
