Newcastle’s New Owners Sack Manager, Steve Bruce, Pay Him £8m

On Wednesday morning, Newcastle announced the departure of manager Steve Bruce.

He was sacked after their 3-2 loss to Tottenham on Friday.

Bruce was already expected to be sacked by the new owners last week immediately after they took over.

However, the Saudi-Arabian led consortium changed their mind and opt to allow Bruce complete his 1,000th career game in management.

Bruce is set to leave with a compensation of £8million from the club.

Newcastle released a statement on social media on Wednesday morning which reads: “#NUFC can confirm that Steve Bruce has left his position as head coach by mutual consent.

“The club would like to place on record its gratitude to Steve for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.”

For now, former AFC Bournemouth coach, Graeme Jones will manage the team as an interim, which would commence with Saturday’s visit to Crystal Palace.

Also, Newcastle have announced that they have started the process of recruiting a new head coach, with former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca who has showed up as an applicant.
