Nigeria’s Iconic Musician Onyeka Onwenu To Be Laid To Rest In Lagos Today
Nigeria will bid a final farewell to one of its most revered cultural icons, Onyeka Onwenu, famously known as the “Elegant Stallion,” who will be laid to rest today in Lagos. The celebrated musician passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She died shortly after at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja.
The funeral service, as announced by her family, will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju. Following the service, a private burial will take place at a vault in Ikoyi, according to CKN News. The Service of Songs is scheduled to take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, with the burial ceremony to follow between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multi-talented individual whose impact went far beyond music. In addition to her numerous hit songs, she was a respected broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist, leaving an indelible mark on Nigerian culture and public life.
She is survived by her two sons, who, along with the entire nation, mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman whose legacy will continue to resonate for generations to come.
