NNPP Criticizes Kwankwaso Over Visit To Abia Governor Otti
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has condemned a recent visit by Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, its former presidential candidate, to Abia State Governor Alex Otti. Following an emergency meeting in Lagos, the NWC described Kwankwaso’s November 9 visit as a “deceptive ploy” in response to a recent court ruling affecting the NNPP’s internal structure.
Tensions within the NNPP have intensified, with the NWC expelling Kwankwaso, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, and members of the Kwankwasiya faction, citing their interference in the party’s affairs. The Kano chapter of the party has also voiced concerns over Kwankwaso’s perceived influence, urging the governor to limit his involvement.
In a statement, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Abdulrasalam Abdulrazaq stressed that Kwankwaso and his associates no longer hold legitimate roles in the party, and any attempt by them to represent the NNPP’s executive is “irresponsible and impersonative.” The NWC reiterated that the court’s decision, which transferred party administration to the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, is binding, and it urged Kwankwaso to address his grievances legally.
The NWC also advised Governor Otti to steer clear of the NNPP’s internal conflicts, cautioning him against being drawn into Kwankwaso’s alleged plans to destabilize the party in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. According to the NWC, Kwankwaso’s influence within the party has been a source of discord since he joined in 2022, accusing him of trying to “hijack” the NNPP for personal benefit.
Kwankwaso’s recent comments to Abia’s newly appointed police officers were also criticized by the NWC, which described his calls for integrity as contradictory, given his alleged attempts to dominate the NNPP’s leadership. Emphasizing that INEC alone has the authority to appeal the court’s order, the NWC reaffirmed Dr. Aniebonam’s leadership, stating that Kwankwaso and his allies’ expulsion is final. This, they claim, will restore stability to the party as it looks ahead to future elections.
