Okada Ban: Police Arrest 16, Seize 140 Motorcycles In Lagos

A total of 16 passengers have been arrested by the Lagos state police command. The state police public relation officer also announced that 140 motorcycles have been impounded.

“There was over 90 per cent compliance, but some motorcyclists still came out and we arrested and charged them to a mobile court.

“Sixteen passengers and motorcyclists were arrested; the majority of the motorcyclists did not carry passengers and some of the motorcyclists abandoned their motorcycles after sighting policemen,” he added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on May 18, imposed a fresh and total ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, on all highways, six Local Government Areas and nine Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

The affected areas include Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Apapa.
