Okowa Returns To Public Scene Following EFCC Arrest
Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made his first public appearance on Wednesday, joining current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other dignitaries at a service of songs held in honor of Mrs. Victoria Ossai Obielum, the mother of prominent politician Godwill Obielum. The event took place at the Obielum family residence in Asaba, Delta State.
Okowa’s appearance comes shortly after his release from detention on Friday, following his arrest over alleged involvement in a N1.3 trillion fraud. Although released, Okowa’s passport has been seized as investigations continue.
The ceremony, well-attended by political figures, including Delta State PDP Chairman Solomon Arenyenka, members of the party’s state executive committee, and numerous high-ranking security officers, provided a somber setting to honor Mrs. Obielum’s life and legacy. She passed away at the age of 87 on June 20, 2024, and will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 16, at the family residence in Ushie, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
Pastor Ifeanyi Ogude of Heaven Bound Christian International Church Ministry delivered a heartfelt sermon, reflecting on the transient nature of life and encouraging attendees to live with purpose and service. He reminded the congregation, “Nobody knows when death will come, and as such, people should be prepared by living a good life and leaving worthy legacies behind, as they will be remembered for what they did.”
The gathering was both a tribute to Mrs. Obielum’s legacy and a reflection on life’s deeper meaning, with Okowa’s attendance marking his return to public life amid ongoing legal challenges.
