Ondo Deputy Governor Files Suit To Stop Impeachment Proceedings
The deputy governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has requested that an Akure high court stop the House of Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment plans against him.
In a suit filed by the court on Monday, Mr Aiyedatiwa asked for an order of the court to stop the state assembly from initiating, continuing, or proceeding with the process of removing him from office.
The suit was filed on his behalf by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebunoluwa Adegboruwa. Named as defendants in the suit are the Ondo State Government, the governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, the state House of Assembly, the speaker of the house, the clerk of the house, and the chief judge of Ondo.
The deputy governor is requesting a declaration that the House of Assembly is not competent to proceed with the impeachment move against him because his right to a fair hearing was breached.
He also asked the court to declare that no steps should be taken against him without a fair hearing.
