One Dead, Nine Arrested As Violence Erupts In Rivers Community

A crisis in the Egbema community, Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, has caused the death of one person, Innocent Didia, and the arrest of nine others.

The incident happened on Friday when youths protested against the Community Liaison Officer (CLO), leading to a confrontation with the local vigilante, ONELGA Security Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC).

The vigilante leader allegedly fired shots, killing Didia.

As a result, youths burnt the leader’s car and house.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying that nine people are in custody.

The Emohua LG Chairman, Chidi Lloyd, has yet to comment, but videos reveal widespread destruction in the community.
