One Dies In FCT Flood, FEMA Recovers Body

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency said it has recovered the body of a 31-year-old motorcyclist, Yakubu Lucky, who drowned in a flood on Friday at Dogongada in Lokogoma District, after a heavy downpour.

In a statement issued by FEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, the agency stated that the deceased defied warnings from local divers in the area and drove through the barricade placed by the agency.

“The downpour yesterday evening in the Federal Capital Territory claimed the life of a 31-year-old motorcyclist, Yakubu Lucky, who drowned after he drove into the pool of water at Dogongada in Lokogoma District of the Territory.

“The deceased, who defied warnings from the local divers stationed at Dogongada by the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), also navigated through the barricade placed by the agency.”

The statement added that the search and rescue team led by FEMA Director of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, recovered the body earlier today, which had been claimed by the family of the deceased from the Asokoro District Hospital where it was deposited.

The Acting Director General of FEMA, Mr. Mohammed Sabo, appealed to FCT residents to always heed the warnings issued by the agency.

Sabo further stated that “the agency always placed a barricade at Dogogada during heavy downpours and urged residents not to drive into a pool of water but to wait for it to recede or seek an alternative route”.
