Otoniel, Colombia’s Most Wanted Drug-Lord Since Pablo Escobar Arrested
The most wanted drug lord in Colombia, Dairo Antonio Usuga David, also known as Otoniel, has been arrested by the local security agencies.
According to the Colombian President, Ivan Duque, the arrest of Otoniel, who is the leader of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ cartel is the largest hit to drug trafficking in the country since Pablo Escobar was arrested and imprisoned in 1993.
Otoniel has been detained in what the President called ‘Operation Osiris’, whereby the Colombian government gave a reward of 800,000 dollars, with the United States offering five million dollars.
He had been under heavy surveillance from the army and police for several months in Uraba, where he was eventually arrested.
President Duque has tagged him ‘the most feared drug trafficker in the world‘ and also a ‘murderer of police, soldiers and social leaders and a recruiter of children’.
The government had been on his heels since 2015, killing lots of his men as a result.
