PDP Suspends Dino Melaye Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended one of its prominent members, Senator Dino Melaye, over allegations of anti-party activities. The suspension was announced by the executive committee of the PDP in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1, following a review of a disciplinary report on Melaye’s conduct.
In the resolution issued by the ward party executives, they expressed that Senator Melaye’s actions had brought “embarrassment and disrepute” to the party, rendering his continued membership untenable. The suspension is by Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which grants ward executives the authority to discipline members who are found to be acting against the party’s interests.
According to the ward chairman, Abayomi Osamika, and ward secretary, Yodson Dayo, Melaye had been invited to appear before a disciplinary committee on August 20, 2024, to answer to accusations of misconduct and anti-party activities. However, the senator failed to attend the hearing, which the party viewed as a “gross disrespect” to its leadership and processes.
The disciplinary committee found that Melaye’s actions violated the principles of party discipline outlined in the PDP Constitution. As a result, the ward executives passed the resolution to suspend him from the party, effective immediately. They called upon all party members to remain loyal and disciplined to maintain the unity and strength of the PDP.
This decision marks a significant disciplinary move within the PDP, as Melaye has been a notable figure in Nigerian politics. His suspension highlights the party’s efforts to maintain internal cohesion and enforce its regulations.
