Police Arrest Two Political Thugs, Recover Firearms Ahead Of Edo Poll
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs during an overnight raid at various locations across Edo State, in a significant move aimed at curbing electoral violence. This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a press statement on Saturday.
According to Adejobi, the police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols and a locally made gun from the suspects. He identified the arrested individuals as Edwin Obanor, a 43-year-old leader of an armed group, and Audu Tajudeen, a 41-year-old member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ugbogbo quarters in Igara Akoko, Edo.
Acting on a tip-off, police operatives raided suspected locations, leading to the apprehension of Obanor at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 pm and Tajudeen in Igara Akoko on the eve of the election. Upon searching their belongings, the police recovered the weapons, indicating their intent to disrupt the governorship election in Edo State.
Adejobi emphasized that the arrests demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring a smooth electoral process. He further warned that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will not tolerate any acts of violence or disorder during the election.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will face the full weight of the law,” Adejobi stated. He also reassured the public of the police’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the published helplines.
