President Tinubu Flags Off 2024 Christian Pilgrimage To Israel And Jordan
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched the 2024 main Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan. The flag-off ceremony was held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State. Representing the president at the event, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, highlighted the importance of the pilgrimage as an opportunity for spiritual renewal.
In a statement by the Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Celestine Toruka, and shared on the Commission’s official X handle, #NGChrisPilgComm, the event’s theme, “Pilgrimage of Renewed Hope for Total Restoration,” was emphasized as being in alignment with the president’s vision and agenda.
President Tinubu, through his representative, encouraged pilgrims to use the journey to deepen their faith in God, pray for the nation’s progress, and resist the temptation to abscond in the Holy Land, reminding them that Nigeria remains their home.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urged the intending pilgrims to see their pilgrimage as a time to strengthen their faith and pray for Lagos State, Nigeria, and their families. He reiterated the sanctity of religion and the power of prayer in addressing national challenges,” the statement read.
NCPC’s Commitment to a Successful Pilgrimage
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the NCPC, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, reflected on the progress made under his leadership since his appointment on February 5, 2024. While acknowledging challenges, he reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to ensuring seamless pilgrimages in accordance with the NCPC 2007 Act.
Bishop Adegbite urged the pilgrims to exhibit humility, piety, and decorum throughout their journey, describing the pilgrimage as a sacred experience. He issued a stern warning against absconding, stating that such actions would not be tolerated. Guarantors of absconders, along with the absconders themselves, would face severe consequences, including being blacklisted and having their names published in national newspapers.
He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for fostering an environment conducive to the growth of pilgrimages and for his unwavering support of the Commission.
First Batch Departs
The first batch of 260 pilgrims from Lagos State, along with 90 officials, making a total of 350 passengers, were successfully airlifted to the Holy Land. The NCPC assured pilgrims of exceptional services throughout their journey, facilitated by its service providers.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the Commission and underscores the government’s commitment to supporting religious practices that promote national unity and spiritual growth.
