Renato Veiga Joins Chelsea From FC Basel

Chelsea have announced the signing of Renato Veiga from FC Basel.

The 20-year-old, who can also play in defense and midfield, joins the Blues on a seven-year contract, with an option to extend by another year, and becomes their fifth signing of the summer window.

He becomes the club’s fifth signing of the summer following the arrival of center-back, Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham, attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa, Marc Guiu from Barcelona, and Kiernan Dewsbury Hall from Leicester City.

I’m buzzing to be here,” Veiga told the club’s official website.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal on 29 July 2003, Veiga began his career in Sporting’s academy in 2010.

He debuted for Sporting B in September 2020 and spent the next two years in the third tier of Portuguese football with the side.

In January 2023, he completed a loan move to Bundesliga club Augsburg, spending seven months there and making 13 appearances before joining Basel later that summer.

Veiga has also represented Portugal at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.

Chelsea start their pre-season schedule with a match against Wrexham in California on 24 July.

They begin their Premier League campaign by hosting champions Manchester City on 18 August.
