Senate Approves Establishment Of University Of Applied Sciences In Kaduna
The Senate has passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State. This development followed the adoption of a report presented by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND during Tuesday’s plenary session. The report was delivered by the committee’s chairman, Senator Mohammed Muntari.
In his presentation, Muntari noted that stakeholders at the public hearing on the bill expressed unanimous support for the establishment of the university. He explained that the institution would focus on providing scientific knowledge aimed at addressing environmental hazards, while also offering professional training in technology.
“The proposed Federal University of Applied Sciences will produce graduates equipped with both practical and theoretical knowledge in fields such as technology, applied sciences, commerce, and management. This will mitigate risks related to productivity, data, information management, and security issues that affect the nation,” Muntari said.
He further emphasized that the university would contribute to economic stability by equipping graduates with skills to address challenges in the economy, while also helping to curb criminal activities. The institution is expected to promote national integration and social progress, especially among young people seeking skills in technology and science.
Additionally, the Senate passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State. This followed the adoption of another report from the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, commended lawmakers for their efforts in passing both bills. He expressed optimism that if President Bola Tinubu signs the bills into law, the new universities will significantly boost the country’s knowledge base, enhance food production, and contribute to national development.
