Senate Confirms Mahmood Yakubu’s Reappointment As INEC Chairman
The senate on Tuesday, the 1st of December, 2020 has confirmed Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) for a second term.
His nomination was sent by President Muhammadu Buhari, after Ibrahim Gaya, chairman of the committee on INEC, presented a screening report of his confirmation for a second tenure in office.
Gaya praised Mahmood by insinuating that there were no incriminating reports concerning him during his first tenure and that he displayed a high level of intelligence during screening besides his qualifications.
According to him; “the nominee is not in anyway a member of any political party and he has not attended political rallies or campaigns”.
Some senators took turns to congratulate the elected and commended him for a job well done in previous elections. The handing over ceremony took place at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
