Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Donates N10 Million to Traders Affected By Okitipupa Market Fire

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, has extended a gesture of goodwill to traders affected by the recent fire incident at the Caring Heart Market in Okitipupa, Ondo State. During a visit to the scene on Thursday, December 26, Ibrahim, accompanied by traditional rulers from the district, donated N10 million to help traders recover from their losses.

The fire, which broke out at midnight on December 12, destroyed fewer than 18 shops stocked with frozen foods and other goods, amounting to an estimated loss of over N50 million. The senator expressed sympathy for the victims and took immediate steps to address the challenges that contributed to the extent of the damage.

“I want to express my sympathy to you for the loss of your stalls and shops,” Ibrahim said. “I was informed about the fire outbreak and came down with our traditional rulers to assess the gravity of the destruction.”

Acknowledging that the lack of water at the market hindered efforts to contain the fire, the senator pledged to drill a solar-powered borehole at the market. He also announced plans to install solar-powered lamps to enhance security and prevent future occurrences.

“I have seen the level of destruction and the losses recorded by the affected shop owners. I am donating a sum of N10 million to you so that you can use it to purchase goods,” Ibrahim added.

Chief Mrs. Florence Irinyemi, the Iyalaje of the market, expressed gratitude on behalf of the traders. She commended the senator for his swift response, financial support, and commitment to improving the market’s infrastructure.

This intervention demonstrates Senator Ibrahim’s dedication to the welfare of his constituents, offering both immediate relief and sustainable solutions to prevent future disasters.
