Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven Resigns
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven on Wednesday resigned. This is an expected move which paves the way for his successor Magdalena Andersson ahead of the general election in 2022.
Lofven was filled by cctvs and cameras handing his resignation letter to the speaker of parliament, Andreas Norlen.
He has been in power for seven years.
Andersson, who at the moment is the finance minister, was elected to take Lofven’s place as party leader, hence, to be the country’s first woman prime minister if she wins a vote in parliament.
A date hasn’t been picked yet for that.
In Sweden’s parliament, political forces are quite even that the Social Democrats would require the support of their Green Party coalition partners and the Left and Centre parties to elect a new prime minister.
However, the Centre Party on Wednesday said it would support Andersson, and the Left would likely do the same.
