Terrorists kill 10 policemen In Iran On Saturday

On Saturday, at least ten Iranian police officers were killed in a “terrorist attack” in the restive Sistan-Baluchistan province of southeastern Iran. The ambush targeted police vehicles in Taftan county, a volatile region 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) from Tehran. According to reports from Mehr and Tasnim news agencies, police patrol units were attacked, but details of the methods used were not disclosed, and no group has yet claimed responsibility.

The impoverished Sistan-Baluchistan province shares borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, and has long faced tensions. Home to a large Baluch minority—an ethnic Sunni group spread across Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan—the area has been a hotspot for clashes between Iranian security forces and various groups, including Baluch separatists, radical Sunni factions, and drug traffickers. The region has frequently witnessed violence as these groups resist Iran’s predominantly Shiite central authority.

This latest attack is one of the deadliest in recent months. Earlier in October, six people, including police officers, were killed in two separate incidents within the province. Responsibility for those attacks was claimed by Jaish al-Adl (“Army of Justice”), a Pakistan-based Sunni jihadist group. Founded in 2012 by Baluch separatists, Jaish al-Adl has called for “armed jihad” against the Iranian government and is officially designated a “terrorist organization” by both Iran and the United States.

Iran and Pakistan have a strained relationship regarding border security, frequently accusing one another of permitting cross-border activities by rebel factions. Tensions escalated further in January when Iran conducted a strike on Pakistani soil, targeting what it claimed was a Jaish al-Adl base. The ongoing unrest underscores the complexities of ethnic, sectarian, and regional dynamics in Sistan-Baluchistan, where security remains precarious amid heightened attacks and international tensions.
