The Actors Guild Of Nigeria (AGN) Suspends Actress Halima Abubakar For Spreading False Information To Bloggers

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has taken disciplinary action by suspending popular Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar for allegedly supplying bloggers with false information. The Guild’s decision comes after a thorough investigation revealed that Abubakar had been involved in spreading misleading rumors about fellow actors and prominent individuals, particularly regarding sensitive personal matters such as extramarital affairs.

According to a statement released by the AGN, the decision was the result of a two-year-long inquiry into claims that Abubakar had been feeding fake news to bloggers, which had caused significant harm to the reputations of various actors and industry figures. In 2022, the Guild established a special Secret Investigation Panel to delve into the matter. The panel’s findings were damning, confirming that Abubakar had indeed been responsible for leaking unfounded stories to the media.

The AGN’s statement disclosed: “Following a detailed and covert investigation by our Secret Investigation Panel, it was determined that Miss Halima Abubakar played a key role in disseminating slanderous and false information to bloggers.” As a result of these findings, the Guild announced her indefinite suspension, barring her from participating in any AGN-related activities or film productions.

Additionally, the AGN warned that further breaches of the suspension could lead to more severe consequences, potentially jeopardizing her career even further. The Guild also noted that it is investigating other female members linked to similar allegations, underscoring a broader concern about rumor-mongering within the entertainment industry.

The case has drawn attention to the rising influence of gossip blogs in Nollywood and the challenges of curbing the spread of false information in an era where social media plays a central role in shaping public perception. As the AGN continues its investigations, the fallout from Abubakar’s actions could lead to tighter regulations within the Guild, aimed at protecting the reputation and integrity of its members.
