Tinubu Presents N26.3tn 2025 Budget: Prioritizing Security, Infrastructure, And Human Development
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday unveiled the 2025 Appropriation Bill titled “The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Building Prosperity” during a joint session of the 10th National Assembly in Abuja. The proposed budget allocates a total of N26.3 trillion, with significant emphasis on defence, infrastructure, health, and education.
Key Allocations
Tinubu highlighted the administration’s priorities with the following sectoral allocations:
•Defence and Security: N4.91tn
•Infrastructure: N4.06tn
•Health: N2.48tn
•Education: N3.5tn
The president emphasized that these allocations reflect a deliberate focus on securing the nation and fostering economic development.
Enhanced Security Investments
“Security is the foundation of all progress,” Tinubu declared. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping security agencies with modern tools and technology to counter insurgency, banditry, and other threats to national sovereignty.
“We have significantly increased funding for the military, paramilitary, and police forces to protect our borders and consolidate control over every inch of our territory,” he said. Enhancing the morale of security personnel remains a top priority, as the administration seeks to empower them as defenders of the nation.
A Commitment to Growth
The president described the budget as a blueprint for strengthening Nigeria’s economy while addressing critical sectors. He stated, “Our steps are deliberate, our decisions resolute, and our priorities clear. This budget reflects a renewed commitment to laying the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity.”
The Restoration Budget underscores Tinubu’s vision of fostering a peaceful and secure nation while investing in critical sectors to build long-term economic resilience and human capital development.
Challenges and Expectations
While the budget signals optimism, experts note the need for transparency in implementation and efficient allocation of resources to address the nation’s pressing challenges. The 2025 fiscal year will test the administration’s resolve in delivering on its promises of security, development, and prosperity.
