Tinubu’s silence increasing public Anxiety -PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for not addressing the nation amidst the ongoing EndBadGovernance protests. These protests, driven by severe economic hardships, have seen youths demonstrating in various regions, including Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, and Rivers, demanding an end to hunger and poor governance.
In a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP urged President Tinubu to immediately address the nation to reassure citizens about the pressing issues affecting them. The statement emphasized the need for urgent steps to reduce the price of petroleum products, stabilize the Naira, and ensure the provision of food to revamp the productive sector, stimulate employment, and restore stability.
The PDP expressed concern that President Tinubu’s silence is causing public apprehension, suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government may be insensitive to the citizens’ plight and the nation’s overall state of affairs. The statement also highlighted the disturbing reports of APC-controlled security agencies assaulting, shooting, and killing unarmed protesters, with thugs allegedly mobilized by the APC unleashing violence on innocent Nigerians.
The opposition party demanded a comprehensive investigation into the reported killing of unarmed Nigerians by security operatives. It called on President Tinubu to address the nation and provide solutions, particularly by reducing the prices of petroleum products and food items. The PDP suggested that with proper management of resources, petrol should not cost more than N200 per litre in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for strategic investment in gas production.
Additionally, the PDP urged President Tinubu to commence the recovery of over N50 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders, reduce tariffs on essential goods, cut the cost of governance, review luxury items in his government, and redirect funds to programs that directly benefit Nigerians. The party also called for professionalism from security agencies in providing protection and security to citizens while investigating the reported killings.
