Uphold Democratic Values, CDS Urges West African Defence Chiefs
Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, has highlighted the adverse effects of military coups on democratic values in West Africa. Speaking at a meeting with West African Defence Chiefs in Abuja, Musa emphasized that such coups threaten democratic principles and negate the core responsibilities of the military.
He underscored the need for the military to uphold democratic values and urged for collective efforts to address regional security challenges.
Musa pointed out that recent issues such as coups, terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime undermine both national security and socio-economic development.
The meeting aimed to foster collaboration, share intelligence, and address these threats through strategic initiatives like the Air Force Security Support Mission in Sierra Leone and the activation of the Air Force Standby Force.
