US Court Sentence Hushpuppi To 11 Years Imprisonment
Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, Popularly known as Hushpuppi has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment for fraud.
The United States Central District Court in California gave the sentence in its recent sitting.
Hushpuppi will, however, spend nine years in jail as he has already spent two years in custody since his arrest in 2020.
According to reports, Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai by a joint team of Dubai Police and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation in June 2020 for alleged fraud on different victims, including American citizens.
Hushpuppi was then extradited and charged with multiple counts of hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.
In July 2021, Hushpuppi pleaded guilty to multimillion-dollar fraud charges as part of a plea bargain he entered with the U.S. authorities.
In September 2022, Hushpuppi and his lawyer Louis Shapiro convinced U.S. federal judge Otis D. Wright to delay his sentencing after multiple appeals, bringing the latest hearing to November 3.
Hushpuppi’s sentence date had been moved four times since his conviction in 2021. Valentine’s February 14 date was first chosen for his sentencing before it was postponed to July 11, then September 21, before the sentencing on November 3.
