VeryDarkMan Released After Two Weeks In Police Custody
Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been released after spending over two weeks in detention.
Otse was scheduled for release one week following his arraignment by the police on charges of cyberstalking and bullying on May 22, 2024.
A viral video on X Monday captures VeryDarkMan reuniting with his supporters after his release.
Recall that the social media critic was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja, facing five charges of cyberstalking involving the Nigerian police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail, but the police prosecution team requested more time to respond to the application, leading Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon to adjourn the bail hearing to May 29.
The prosecution sought to have Otse remanded in prison custody, but his lawyers successfully argued for his remand in police custody instead.
The court accepted this request, and VeryDarkMan was subsequently detained at the National Cybercrime Centre.
