Vice President Kashim Shettima Attends International Extractive And Energy Conference In Côte d’Ivoire
Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Wednesday for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources (SIREXE). The high-profile event, scheduled to run from November 27 to December 2 at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre, brings together global leaders and stakeholders to discuss sustainable strategies for the extractive and energy industries.
The Vice President’s participation follows an official invitation from Côte d’Ivoire’s Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, according to a statement by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication.
Nigeria’s Role at SIREXE 2024
During the conference, Vice President Shettima will highlight Nigeria’s expertise and achievements in hydrocarbon exploration and production. This includes sharing lessons on managing the nation’s vast oil and gas resources while addressing challenges in sustainability and environmental stewardship.
SIREXE is a key international platform organized by the Ivorian government to foster collaboration and innovation in the extractive and energy sectors. This year’s theme, “Policies and Strategy for the Sustainable Development of the Extractive and Energy Industries,” underscores the urgency of balancing resource development with environmental and economic sustainability.
A Brief Visit
Vice President Shettima’s trip is a one-day engagement, with his return to Abuja expected later on Wednesday. His attendance reflects Nigeria’s commitment to regional and international cooperation in the extractive and energy sectors, as well as its leadership role in shaping sustainable development policies across Africa.
