Voter’s Registration Resumes June 28
The Independent National Electoral Commission will commence a nationwide Continuous Voter Registration on June 28 across the 774 Local Government Areas ahead of the 2023 general election.
INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this on Thursday during a press conference held in Abuja.
He also noted that the indefinite suspension of the bye-election held in Ekiti East following gunshots, electoral violence, and killing would stay, saying, “if the purpose of election is to kill, the election will remain suspended indefinitely. And when I mean indefinitely, I mean indefinitely.”
Yakubu encouraged all various groups of Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity and fulfil their civic responsibility including Nigerians who are 18 years of age and have never been registered to vote; any registered voter who has had any issue during accreditation at previous elections; all registered voters who wish to transfer their voting locations from the present one to another, who no longer have valid PVCs or who wish to correct their information.
He disclosed that the electoral umpire has set aside the Direct Data Capture Machine, and would introduce a new device being developed by its in-house software engineers.
